Volos 16/3/2018

The Postgraduate Program "Organization and Management of Education" is organizing a lecture with main speaker, Dr. Ioanna Noula Visiting Researcher, Department of Media and Communications, London School of Economics and Political Science on the subject of "Education for (Digital?) Citizenship in Greece. Digitality and Challenges for the New School ". The lecture will take place on Friday, March 16, 2018, at 20:00, in the Kordatos Amphitheater (Delmuzos building, University of Thessaly). The lecture will focus on the social, political and cultural dilemmas generated by subversive digital technology and will examine how the concept of citizenship and the role of the citizen are transformed. In the context of the contribution, examples from international experience will be used to raise the concerns of the importance of school and pedagogical relationship in preparing modern citizens in the context of modern cultural challenges and the existing dominant assumptions and perceptions of digital growth. In particular, the main reasons and definitions for the neologism of "digital citizenship" will be critically analyzed. At the same time, the way in which existing approaches to this concept contribute to the de-politicization of citizenship will be discussed. Finally, it will be attempted to reveal how, through the "physiqueisation" of technology and the appropriation of progressive pedagogical causes, in the framework of defining digital citizenship, surveillance practices and data profiling technologies are normalized, thus undermining the "risky" creative forces of pedagogical relationship and critical "meetings" of young people with digital technology."
