Important Distinction for the Department of Civil Engineering: Financing Research through the European Programme ΙNTERREG V-A "GREECE - BULGARIA 2014-2020"

 

The Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Thessaly announces its participation as a partner / beneficiary in the project "Networking for Reciprocal Safe Cross Border Water Supply towards a Worth Living Environment – SaveSafeWater" (Funding: ΙNTERREG IPA II Cross-border Cooperation Programme Greece-Albania 2014-2020, 2nd Call for Ordinary Project Proposals). Associate Professor V. Kanakoudis is the scientific coordinator of SaveSafeWater.

Specifically, 200 proposals were submitted by the two countries (Greece and Albania) participating in the CBC Program, of which 18 were approved, under Priority Axis 1. Promotion of the environment, sustainable transport and public infrastructure. SaveSafeWater received the highest score.

The main objective of SaveSafeWater is to increase the cross border infrastructure capacity in water management through efficient networking for reciprocal Safe cross border Water Supply (WS) towards a Worth Living Environment. For the implementation of the project, the University of Thessaly will cooperate with the following organizations from the two countries involved: 1) Association of Water Supply basin of Ioannina, Greece (Lead Partner), 2) Municipal Enterprise for Water Supply and Sewerage of Igoumenitsa, Greece, 3) Municipal Enterprise for Water Supply and Sewerage of Kefallonia, Greece, 4) Korça Water Supply and Sewerage Utility sh.a., Albania, 5) Regional Council of Korca, Albania.

The coordination of the research project by the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Thessaly will contribute to linking academic research with the market’s needs in order to create mechanisms for detecting potential entrepreneurship and research excellence, especially in the field of drinking water management.
